Fuck Fuck Fuckity Fuck

How do you cope with a son with a gambling problem, who has just taken out his second PayDay loan (at the oh so agreeable APR of 4200%!), and who also owes us over £1,500?

Part of me wants to kick him out, part of me wants to lend him money, and part of me just wants to get really, really fucking drunk then beat him to a pulp. OK, not the beating bit, really – apart from anything else, he is bigger than me and would fight back…. Maybe just punching him really hard, once.

This is, of course it would be, Youngest, with his mental health issues, his medication needs and his minimum wage job.

Fuck my life.

NO more lending money (just enables the problem). Up to you on kicking him out. Accept that its his life to ruin. If he hits rock bottom, support his crawl out.

ps: Sorry you’re in this situation.

The trouble is, if he gets behind with payments and gets labelled a Credit Risk, that’s our address. That’s us. I don’t want to be a credit risk.

        Well that sucks!
Problem is: If he’s truly addicted that he’s likely to just gamble that money as well. Or, when his debt is cleared, use it as a opp to acquire more debt.

I see why throwing him out might be a reasonable option. Plus, I think I would have a big attitude along the lines of “If you have enough money to gamble, you have enough money to support yourself – GET OUT”

but it’s all easy to say when i don’t have a kid!

unrelated: Have you seen Bjork live. I’m debating about it.

    • bookmole says:

She is good and well worth seeing. Shit – is she touring? I owe daughter two tickets to see Bjork…

I just know about the dates in CA. She had 2 at a smaller concert venue and 1 at the Hollywood Bowl. Now another date has been added at the smaller venue (but I already have plans on the new date)

Yep, as someone who watched an uncle with a gambling problem mooch off his parents and my parents and half a dozen women throughout his life, I’m with Leeenda. You don’t have to kick him out or cut him out of your lives. You just have to stop enabling the gambling. No more money. You can help him get out of this situation by helping him budget properly to pay off the debts, but you can’t help him by giving him more money. Because at this point, you know it’s not a loan. It’d just be flushing cash down the toilet.

Time to look for some help. I’m not a huge fan of 12 step things, but it’d be somewhere to start: http://www.gamblersanonymous.org.uk/
